Olympic gold medallist Maddie Hinch passed on some pearls of wisdom during a day of coaching at Bishop’s Stortford Hockey Club.

The former Great Britain and England goalkeeper visited the Herts and Essex Sports Centre in Beldams Lane to host one of her MH1 training camps.

Hinch, who earlier this year announced her retirement from competitive action, won gold with Team GB at the Rio 2016 Olympics before adding a bronze to her collection at Tokyo 2020.

The shot-stopper, who made more than 150 international appearances, also claimed three Commonwealth Games medals with England, including gold in Birmingham last year.

Hinch and her team of coaches led specialist camps in goalkeeping and shooting for 50 under-18s from across the area during the day.

The three-time FIH goalkeeper of the year also put on a lunchtime skills showcase, which included posing for selfies and signing autographs.

Around 25 adult goalkeepers, including six from Stortford, were then put through their paces in the evening.

Everyone went away from the sessions feeling inspired having spent time in the company of one of the sport’s best goalkeepers.
