Ladies1’s v Harleston Magpies 2’s

Just a great keeper photo

2-4

A young and inexperienced ladies 1s team headed to Harleston Magpies and equipped themselves well but ultimately came away with no points.

Bishops Stortford made the worst possible start conceding from a short corner after only 5 minutes. They then soaked up a lot of pressure and were indebted to goalkeeper Charlie Nash, who made 2 great saves to keep the scoreline at 1-0. This seemed to galvanise the Stortford side and they deservedly drew level when a rasping shot from Rori Fletcher was deflected into the goal by Gracie Cowan. Unfortunately 2 defensive errors when in possession, handed Magpies 2 opportunities on a plate. Both chances were dispatched and Stortford went into half time 3-1 down.

With some halftime tweaks, Stortford began the second half confidently and forced the Magpies GK into a number of saves. It was somewhat against the run of play when Magpies broke to extend their lead to 4-1.

Unperturbed, the young Stortford side laid siege to the Magpies goal and scored, from one of a number of short corners that they won, through captain Kate Robinson.

Although returning from Norfolk with no points for their efforts, there were plenty of positives to take from the game. With six U17s in the squad the future looks very bright for the ladies 1s team.

Ladies 3’s v Stevenage 1’s

Colin Harker, one of our great umpires

0-1

Ladies 3’s played Stevenage 1s away on Saturday. The game started very evenly with both teams having some opportunities to score. After 10 mins Stevenage broke through our defence and managed to find the back of the net through a scrappy goal. The rest of the game continued as it started with both teams having more opportunities but the main part of the game was played in the middle of the pitch. A draw would have been a fair result.

Ladies 5’s v Luton Town 1’s

Amelia Leach in action earlier in the season

2-0

PoM: Liv Brierley/Jo Sullivan

A sunny day at Beldams welcomed our top of the table fixture against Luton 1s.

The ball started in our possession and we made a strong attack, however luton worked the ball back and put us on  the back foot with our first defensive short. It was well cleared by Liv Brierley and keeper Hannah Reynolds and we pushed up. Some great play in our middle from Jo Sullivan and Liv built us back up. However, some overly passionate play from Liv got a green card. Stort played well with some great runs from Amelia Leach up the left, beating her defenders by miles. Some great pushes into space and triangles from Charlotte Pettit created the opportunity for Sully to score, earning her PoM. Defenders Nadia El Zanfaly, Liv Figg , Claire Short  and Catherine Clune  kept stortford ahead defending as the half time whistle blew.

Second half started more confidently with one twos from Catherine and Liv, and Amelia and Catherine turning into some great attacking play. Charlotte played an excellent game as attacking mid with some great attacking from long balls. Our second goal came by Eva Sanderson with an excellent goal. Now very much on the front foot stortford came out attacking. Great long corners from Charlotte gave the ball to Catherine who crossed to p-spot with a shot on goal from Izzy Lawrence. Some great supporting play from Megan Maybanks  and Lisa Forsyth set us up great. Liv got another amber card but for her enthusiasm received PoM as well.

Congratulations to everyone great win against top of the table and very well fought. Special mention to Liv and Sully for their PoM.

Ladies 8’s v Stevenage 5’s

Charlie Woodrow in action earlier in the season

5-1

PoM: Megan Laws

This week saw BSHC ladies 8s travelling to Stevenage, for a league match against Stevenage ladies 5s.

The game started well with Stortford dominating play, and despite the challenging pitch, Megan Laws scored in the 6th minute the first goal of the match.

The home team immediately came on the attack and carving out a chance within the first ten minutes, the home team shot at goal, seeing a strong save by the Stortford keeper, Zara Atkinson

Not to be swayed, Stevenage continued on their quest and were awarded a goal to bring the score to 1-1.

Stortford continued to challenge and push high in the play. Dominating play they were rewarded a 2nd and 3rd goal in the first half both from Megan Laws. The first half closed with Stortford in the lead at 3-1

Stortford came out strong, and with a brilliant communication on the pitch and with great back passing, Stortford continued to push ahead and knocked in two further fantastic goals, both coming from Charlie Woodrow.

Despite the best efforts of the home team, and a number of short corners awarded to them, the whistle blew with a final score of 5-1 to Stortford. Player of the match was awarded to Megan Laws
