POTM Craig Smith

Bishops Stortford and Cambridge University took on each other in a match where both were vying to avoid relegation.

Bishops Stortford asserted their dominance early on, with Jack Wheaton throwing a precise aerial pass half the length of the pitch to Tom Frenzel, who executed a stunning reverse strike goal. This display of skill left the Cambridge defence stunned. Moments later, a lightning-fast short corner saw Adam Farley’s immaculate injection setting up Jack Wheaton for a thunderous drag flick further extending Stortfords lead.

While subsequent goals may have lacked the same flair, they were nonetheless effective, with Rich Heywood and Craig Smith capitalising on defensive lapses to score seemingly effortless tap-ins. Matt Jackaman delivered the seventh with a composed finish, securing a comprehensive victory for Stortford which guarantees their place in East premier next season

2’s v Blueharts 2’s

2-4

Result – 2-4 loss

Scorers: Alex Kirton, Jeff Dummett

Stortford Mens 2s last away game of the season took them to league leaders Blueharts, with a bare 11 and knowing the opposition would be looking for revenge after the 6-0 thumping handed to them at Beldams Lane in the reverse fixture.

The visitors started the brightest, picking off possession in their own half, and passing cleanly and protecting the ball.  A Stortford penalty corner gave the first real opportunity – a wayward injection allowed Alex Kirton to take advantage and hit his first goal of the season into the bottom left corner.

The number deficit took its toll in the second half as Blueharts piled on the pressure, Stortford began to lose energy.  Whilst creating some chances ultimately it was the new league champions who could keep up the pace, putting 4 goals into the Stortford net.  Not to give up, stortford continued to try to find goals.  A last minute penalty corner was deflected by Jeff Dummett onto a goal-line defenders leg, then he put the resulting penalty stroke away to take the final score line to 4-2

3-0

Bishop’s Stortford 7s were quickly 2-0 up before Stevenage fought back and pressure forced Stortford to concede a short corner. Stortford remained under pressure before a break away from defence resulted in a third goal. Stortford repeatedly entered the Stevenage D but could not find the net while Stevenage tried score on the break. In the second half it continued similarly but the Stortford midfield improving, retaining more possession. Stevenage still tried to score from breaks and Stortford conceded two short corners that were defended well. The rest of the half continued with Stortford repeatedly getting D entries but still not adding to the score. Outstanding performances from Albie Walton, James Jones and Tim Smith

At the very end centre forward Jim volleyed the ball into the back of net and started celebrating only for his teammates to tell him it came off his foot! Goals from Elliot Smith (2) and Henry Lowe
