Bishop’s Stortford 6s vs Witham 2s
The ladies 6’s met Witham 2s for a home match on a nice warm and sunny Saturday afternoon. An experienced and familiar team started with immediate pressure on the Witham defence. With the majority of play being in Withams half.
After 15 minutes of a few missed chances and short corners. Including, several great runs down the wing by Elizabeth, and a near miss from Izzy L. Grace found the back board after a rebound (1-0).
The pressure continued and bishops stortford felt reassured after a goal. 3 minutes later, after several passes around the D, Izzy L slotted a great shot in the bottom left to make the score 2-0. The pressure was held up by a solid press and support from the midfield. A press so effective Witham tried to go through Stortford players causing some bruises ! Just before half time Sully fed a great ball to Grace who again found the back board making it 3-0.
A good chat and some sugar intake over HT – kept Bishops Stortford on the offensive immediately from the second half. However, Witham came back with some new found energy.
The defensive line of Gemma, Eliza, Claire and Charlotte were absolutely solid at the back keeping Witham out of the D and soaking up the small amount of pressure from Witham giving Izzy an easy afternoon in goal. The few attacks from Witham were cleared easily at the back and some great balls out from the back which put the pressure right back on Witham.
After a foul, Lea had an impressive self take from just outside the D and chipped the ball to make it 4-0. Beth and Claire S made some great passes to assist the forwards. Elizabeth continued with great runs to the baseline and found Izzy on the P spot ready to swing it into the goal (5-0). Shortly, afterwards Sully (6-0)and Lois (7-0) both scored after some efficient passing by the team. The pressure continued until the final whistle blew. A great result, with contributions from every player. Izzy L named as POM !
